Our COVID Story
Since the first lockdown in March 2020 we have worked hard to provide support to homeless families. The families we support are all living in very cramped and difficult conditions with whole families in one or two rooms of a hostel.
We know how difficult this is at the best of times and could only imagine how much worse it would be in lockdown and without the respite that our centre and the services we normally provide.
We have maintained dialogue with our families throughout to keep them informed, hear about their difficulties and respond to their needs.
We formed partnerships with other organisations to enable us to distribute care packages. We raised funds to provide a weekly delivery of fresh fruit & vegetables and regular packages of creative materials for children, family hygiene packages & emergency needs such as baby formula, nappies, sanitary products etc.
As so much became reliant on digital delivery we were acutely aware of the additional disadvantage and isolation many of our families and children faced. Without the necessary devices or internet access to participate they were excluded from so much.
We raised funds to provide broadband & devices and developed digital support activities for parents and children to reduce their isolation. 95% of our service users are from BAME backgrounds, 75% are women, 50% are single parents and some children have special needs. We will continue work to support those who are already some of the most seriously disadvantaged and vulnerable people in society and who are likely to become even more so.
